Foxit PDF Editor and Reader Deployment Guidance

Overview

Foxit has introduced structural changes to their installer formats, licensing models, and product packaging. To ensure reliable deployment, accurate detection, and continued vendor support, the Patch My PC catalog has been aligned with Foxit’s current installer architecture and support lifecycle.

This article outlines supported versions, product removals and replacements, renamed products, deployment recommendations, and update applicability requirements.

Foxit Changes

Foxit’s installer structure, packaging, and licensing models have evolved. The Patch My PC catalog reflects these changes to improve deployment reliability, update applicability, and product clarity.

Key changes include:

• Only the latest and previous versions of the perpetual licenses of Foxit PDF Editor are supported (i.e. v13 and v14).
• Only the latest current year version is supported for Foxit PDF Reader and the subscription license of Foxit PDF Editor.
• All installers now support multiple languages.
• Foxit do not update their base MSI package on a regular basis. You may need to apply the latest MSI (for example to get from 2024 to 2025.2) then apply the latest MSP to get to 2025.3.
• If you are not using Foxit’s customisation tool to create a custom MST, it’s easier to just create a single deployment for the EXE (which bundles the latest MSI + MSP) – so the EXE variants have now been added.
• It was discovered that Foxit PDF Reader has separate MSI ProductCodes for their ‘Consumer’ and ‘Enterprise’ installers. So detection has been improved and products renamed to clarify this.

Products to be Removed

The products mentioned in this section are all scheduled for expiration and deletion. The following products are no longer supported by the vendor:

• Foxit PDF Reader 2024 (MSI-ML)

The following products are being removed due to duplicate entries in the catalog (either English and Multi-language variants, or both year-specific and “Latest” versions). Cloud deployments will transition automatically, but custoemrs using Patch My PC Publisher should take note and enable the recommended replacement products:

MSP Update Applicability

If you find that updates are not applicable for Foxit Reader, it’s possible that you are deploying the wrong Consumer/Enterprise variant.

A quick way to verify is to check if the following registry key exists (which will be under Wow6432Node if looking at the 32-bit version on a 64-bit OS):

The MSP files each target a specific ProductCode and minimum version. To verify what you have installed, you can use our export script. Like Adobe Reader, the MSI ProductCode now seems to be fixed for each product. Listed below are the requirements for the various Foxit patches at the time of writing:
