QBE America’s Story
For an insurer protecting data that is catnip to attackers, every unpatched app across 24,000 endpoints starts a high-stakes clock. QBE was racing to close vulnerabilities while moving from Configuration Manager to Intune, a transition that had the potential to turn every application into another manual rebuild. Then Patch My PC showed the team a path they did not know was possible, making migration feel less like starting over and more like moving forward.
About
QBE Americas is part of QBE Insurance Group, an international insurer and reinsurer founded in 1886. Today, more than 13,000 QBE employees work across 26 countries, providing commercial, personal, specialty, and risk management solutions that help individuals and businesses navigate uncertainty. Its North American business serves customers across the United States and Canada.
The Center of the Bullseye
Insurance companies sit in the center of the bullseye. They hold exactly what attackers want: Social Security numbers, driver’s licenses, credit card details, financial records, and deeply personal claims information.
Customers hand over that data with a simple expectation: That it will stay protected.
Insurance companies like QBE are part of the financial services sector, where sensitive customer data and strict regulatory requirements put every vulnerability under a microscope. According to Verizon’s 2026 Data Breach Investigations Report, 31% of breaches now begin with vulnerability exploitation, making software flaws the leading way attackers get in. Regulations like DORA raise the standard even further. Insurers must not only protect their customers, but also prove to auditors, boards, and shareholders that they are managing risk.
Meanwhile, attackers are moving faster than ever. AI is helping them find and exploit vulnerabilities while security teams race against the clock. Bad actors do not wait for a change window, a migration, or a package to be built.
At QBE, every vulnerability flagged across 24,000 endpoints started that clock. Nick Wiley and his team had to package applications one by one, then deploy each update without disrupting users.
“We had lots of vulnerabilities being flagged,” Nick said. “One of the biggest pain points was packaging all of those individual applications and making sure they were deployed with minimal user impact.”
QBE was also moving from Configuration Manager to Intune, but its existing patching solution was not keeping up.
“We were using a competitor, and they were not meeting our more modern needs,” Nick said.
QBE needed a solution that could move as quickly as the threat and carry its patching process into the future.
A Patching Solution That Was Already One Step Ahead
QBE knew it needed to move from Configuration Manager to Intune. What the team did not realize was how much easier that move could be.
Without the right solution, migrating applications can mean rebuilding years of work, one package at a time. Patch My PC gave QBE another path.
The App Migration tool inventories existing applications and helps move supported apps into Intune-ready packages without rebuilding each one manually. QBE could keep patching its current environment while moving toward Intune, turning what could have been a long, manual project into a simpler path to modern management.
“We were able to move from Configuration Manager to Intune without batting an eye,” Nick said. “Patch My PC had already planned for that before we were really even looking into it.”
That was the difference. Patch My PC was not catching up to QBE’s modernization plans. It was already one step ahead, showing the team what was possible and making it easier to get there.
For QBE, migration stopped feeling like a roadblock and started feeling like progress.
Less Time Packaging and More Time Protecting
The impact extended beyond app migration. Patch My PC changed how much day-to-day attention patching demanded from QBE’s engineers.
“Patch My PC simplified our patching process. It became less hands-on, less babysitting, and a more trusted overall delivery process.”
That trust matters in an industry where patching is not only an operational responsibility, but something QBE must be able to demonstrate. Consistent processes and reporting give the team a clearer record of how applications across its environment are being maintained without requiring engineers to manually piece together the evidence.
The result is more than a faster patching process. It is time returned to the people responsible for keeping QBE’s environment secure.
“I am no longer a patching packager. I am able to focus on the things that are going to drive and benefit our business.”
Across 24,000 endpoints, that shift adds up. QBE can spend less time rebuilding packages, babysitting deployments, and maintaining the mechanics of patching and more time protecting customers and moving its technology strategy forward.
