Dell G15 5520 with i5-12500H and 16 GB RAM ... Windows 11 Pro 24H2 26100.2605

Attempting to install v. 5.0.5.0 ,,,

Computer freezes at "Installing Prerequisite Software".

I left it on the screen at one point for several hours.

Attempt to get past this ...

Three Finger Salute (Control - Alternate - Delete), Task Manager, Delete "Control UI for administrative ..." and "Windows Installer" and back to Desktop.

After Reboot, the Installer runs again with same results. Reboot again and attempt to delete the Installer file ... no luck ... every time I boot, the installer rears it's ugly head.

What do I do? Please help. Thanks.

Thanks for reaching out! Based on your description, the freeze may be happening while the installer is attempting to install .NET 8, which is a prerequisite. It's possible that a User Account Control (UAC) prompt is awaiting approval, but it might be hidden in the taskbar or behind other windows.

Can you check the taskbar for a UAC prompt or any window asking for permissions? If you find one, approving it should allow the installation to proceed.

Thanks, Justin. I thought to try that but found nothing hiding the prompt or flashing. The only other thing I thought about was to Install as an administrator. I've tried that with the file downloaded and, unfortunately, a right click on the file does not bring up a prompt to do that. Perhaps if Ido that with a new installation file it will work? I'll let you know!

I got it to run ... finally. I had to use the free Glary's Utility "File Shredder" to delete the file completely and then re-download the file again. This time I drilled down to "Properties" and "Compatibility" and set it to run in the Windows 10 Compatibility Mode. It does run that way without any obvious problems.
