Hi, PMPC thinks that SumatraPDF is on version 3.4.6 and in need of an update. However, the latest version (3.5.2) is already installed.

Omar (Patch My PC)

We already have SumatraPDF 3.5.2 in the home updater :)

Pedro Lino

Hi

Sumatra 3.5.2 is installed for current user but it is not detected (does not show in green on the Main Software list or on the right hand window). Is this a known limitation of PMPC?

The same happens with Autohotkey 2.0.11 which is also installed for User

Omar (Patch My PC)

It's working fine for me! Green on the right windows too! :)
However, this kind of issues are fixed for good in the new Home Updater v5.0.0.0 which will release within a week! 🥳

Pedro Lino

Thank you for the fast answer! Looking forward to test the new version!

Thank you for the heads up!

Unfortunately version 5 still does not detect Sumatra or Autohotkey.

It did detect more programs including a needed update for Owncloud but closed Explorer without asking (so now I have no shell... not a problem because I'm a DOS veteran ;) )

Omar (Patch My PC)

What versions are you using for them again? Autohotkey 2.0.11 and SumatraPDF 3.5.2?

Pedro Lino

Yes and yes.

I just realized there is no way for PMPC to detect them. They are installed for Current User (but for security reasons, Current User is not an Admin) but PMPC always needs to run elevated so I need to Run it as an Admin (and therefore it is checking the Admin's App folder, not the Current User's App folder).

The only way for these to be detected would require PMPC to run for a simple User (and asking for elevation if the program needed it). But I guess most Users are Admins, it's just me who worries about security :)

Thank you for the support! You can close the topic.

Yeah PMPC installs apps as admin since this is the default way and the majority of users are using it too :) There are no problems installing apps as admin :)

No problem at all. The problem is that if all users are admins and can install any program, it is very likely that you will have problems in the near future ;)

Omar (Patch My PC)

Everyone is responsible of what they are installing 😁
Also this is for home users and their personal PCs/Laptops, not for companies and work environments!

BTW, you can "Disable silent install" for AutoHotKey and SumatraPDF and install/update them manually and choose to install them for user! but you will have to do this with every new update unfortunately.

Interesting option! But in this case, it would install in the App folder of the Admin, which is not the intention. Thank you anyway for the suggestion! I have uninstalled and installed in the Standard way, in the Programs folder.
