Messages - Andrew Jimenez (Patch My PC)

Chrome EXE is the EXE installer, Chrome (x64) is the MSI installer.

If you the data you are looking at is in the database scan tool, the two installers look nearly identical, which is why the EXE may be detected in that tool even if the MSI is installed.

I totally agree with the need. We're working on some things with the PSADT group to hopefully make this easier in the future, however I don't have timelines available at the moment.

Hey Paul,

For this, I would recommend raising a support request with the team so that we can get a full set of logs and see what happened. https://patchmypc.com/technical-support

Typically, the fastest resolution for these issues is to delete the broken apps and their content and sync them again. The causes for this type of issue vary, but typically it is due to the Publisher not being able to find the existing app or content and recreating the app new instead.

We are actually going to switch this app off of local content, and are planning on doing so with the next release. The original reason for the local content was to ensure that customers didn't auto-enable the product without a license. However, we now have other controls to block auto-enable for products, so we will turn that on for Java 8, and make it not a local content product. I believe the next release is scheduled for October, additionally we are going to improve the pre-install script for that app as well.

Hello, we have a similar idea here: https://ideas.patchmypc.com/ideas/PATCHMYPC-I-4019

Please vote on that idea and provide additional feedback, and I'll see if I can get it in front of the devs. Thanks!

It seems you are correct. For Tableau Reader our intent is to follow a yearly release. We'll check this out and make some updates on our end. We likely won't use the built-in removal option, as it would likely remove previous major versions as well, however, you may add that additional command-line via the right-click options if you would like while we work on a solution.

Hello,

Tableau Desktop has separate tracks for each subversion so we only patch within the subversion (i.e. 2024.1, 2024.2). We utilize the REMOVEINSTALLEDAPP=1 in the "Latest" version which removes all previous versions.

Generally for other apps, we update within the Major version, but Tableau is odd in that their "tracks" are major.minor version.

This page has some info on what to expect: https://help.tableau.com/current/desktopdeploy/en-us/desktop_deploy_upgrade.htm#install-a-release-version-upgrade-on-the-same-computer

BlueJeans is end of life and has been discontinued by the vendor. It is in the process of being decommissioned from our catalog.

Yes, we are actively working on this solution. It will require a new Publisher build, but we are going to inject additional headers for these specific apps. I'm hoping we'll have a fix in the next preview build of the Publisher.

Glad we have more time! We're working on updating our documentation, and Publisher code to account for this change.

Hello,

We've done some initial investigation on this. The Publisher currently uses MessageCard and not AdaptiveCard, so the built-in workflow templates will not work with the format of the message the Publisher is sending. We are currently determining the best course of action, but at the moment we will likely need to fix this in a future Publisher release.

Hi Shaun,

If you had uploaded a customized MSI, Patch My PC would not have accepted that file, as we require the filehash to match what is in our database. This ensures that you are not uploading a binary that may have been modified maliciously.

The latest will update any older versions (of the same installer type and architecture) to the latest version. It will not replace an exe with an MSI installation, though that is a feature we plan on adding to the portal in the future.

Hello,

It does not change the date for each assignment. What you should do in this case is instead use the right-click "manage assignments" feature and set the number of days after your sync to make the assignments occur on a specific date. If you want your apps to be updated on the 2nd tuesday every month for example, you can set your sync schedule in Patch My PC to the "second" "tuesday" then use the "Manage Assignments" right click option on your products to specify the date they should deadline.
