All of these apps show up in the list with an icon that is a red circle with a white checkmark, all are missing publisher and version info.  36 apps in total appearing in the list that are not installed apps.

Very interesting! Ok let's fix this together!

1- Are these the only ones? the 7 ones in the red checkmark?
2- Are you 100% sure that these weren't even installed and removed in the past? If yes then this probably means that you have other apps with some common names from these ones!
Can you open the Uninstaller tab and search for these apps and tell me what will show up? search for SFXMaker for example and tell me what's the result in the uninstaller tab.

denmalley

1. There are 39 apps in total on my list, these were just a sample.

2.  100% sure for most of these apps, a few I could see possibly having installed but most I am 100% sure.

Search does not appear to be working in the uninstaller page.  I also cannot sort by display name to just manually search alphabetically, even though I can sort by all the other columns (version, publisher, install date).  Unfortunately the bogus apps on the "my apps" page have none of these attributes.

Interestingly, there is an item in the list that matches the icon with a publisher of intuit (I do have several versions of Turbotax installed)

Does the uninstaller work fine when you close the home updater and open it again?

denmalley

Actually yes, it works when I relaunch the app and immediately go to the uninstaller page, but then stops working if I go back to my apps page and then return to the uninstaller page.  Was able to repeat this behavior multiple times, stopping and starting the home updater app.

However, sorting by display name still doesn't work in any of those conditions.

Ok I think I noticed the same issue too! Thank you for the details! Will work on fixing this soon.
For now, can you use Add/Remove Programs and check there for these apps?

denmalley

I installed balenaEtcher and did a rescan in home Updater.  It populated with the publisher and version info.  Then I uninstalled from the "my apps" window in Homeupdater (clicked the three dots and chose uninstall) and it is still on the list, back to the red circle/white checkmark icon.

Is that what you wanted me to do?

denmalley

Interesting development - I tried uninstalling that one "intuit" entry from the uninstaller page that had the same icon as the bad entries in "my apps" (from the 2nd screenshot above).

It launched a turbotax 2020 uninstaller so I ran it and the Home Updater completely froze and I had to hard stop the app in task manager.

But now all the "bad" entries are gone!  Turbotax 2020 does also appear to also be uninstalled as well.

Looks like I have a bunch of old turbotax software to remove (back to 2017!).  Probably well past time for a fresh windows install anyway.

Wow that's weird! :D
Glad that you figured it out! So all good now?

denmalley

Yep all appears to be working now.  Probably just a weird edge case.
