General Questions (Free Home Updater) / Re: portable apps

Sorry, I did not manage to quote correctly:

'What you are suggesting means that we need to add every single portable app on the internet to the database of the home updater'.

Er, I am not aware of that.
I am not at all referring to or saying anything about the comprehensiveness of the PMPC database of portable apps. I am not a native speaker, maybe my English is not adept enough.

I sipmply observed that PMPC did not see my portable apps in the designated folder. I assumed that was because I had stored them in a subfolder structure, to quickly find the right tool when I need it.

Example of nested folder and subfolders structure:
Portable Apps

    Hardware Monitors (with subfolders:)
        Speccy
        CrystalDiskInfo PORTABLE
        Winaero WEI tool
                Proprietary tools
                etc.etc.
        Data Management
                Explorer
        Driver managers (also with subfolders)
    Uninstallers (also with subfolders)
    System (also with subfolders)
    Tools (also with subfolders)
        etc. etc.

On the lowest level I have every app in a designated folder with version information in the name, for the simple reason that many apps do not have version information in their name.

Now I did a quick test and put an outdated portable tool at the highest level, i.e. directly without an enclosing folder in the 'Portables Location' folder (rufus-4.4p.exe). I had PMPC run a re-scan. Rufus is now not found either.
So it must not be down to the inability to scan in sub-folders.

Ok, some more tests:
1 I go to default settings and let PMPC look at PortableApps folder on my desktop again. I place a portable app here. I do a scan. PMPC sees nothing.

2 I 'install' a portable app (I would use the term download here but understand the choice of 'install as well). I choose BlueScreenView 64-Bit_1.5.2. After a rescan, PMPC does see this app! But geek.zip what I put next to it does not! (This without putting geek.zip in a subfolder).

What is going wrong here?

Quote from: around on November 03, 2024, 09:03:34 AMI believe KC Softwares, the creator of Sumo, ceased activity in October 2023.
That is correct and it is the reason I used past tense. I just wanted it to be clear a software updater should be able to scan subfolders.

If I remember correctly Sumo could also scan subfolders, can anyone confirm?

With due pleasure, I installed v5. I now wonder if PatchMyPC managing my portable apps folder also includes the subfolders therein.

edit: I now see that when I select 'portable' applications my subfolders are not visible. To keep a somewhat larger collection of portable apps organized it is really necessary to group them into categories. This seems like a very desirable feature, I'll also post in Feature Requests.

Can you summarize in Short Summary.

Thanks for bumping. I'll summarize for you:

Patchmypc can't connect to the server

#9
Not sure if this is a bug at all but since a couple of weeks I canÔÇÖt use Patchmypc anymore.

If patchmypc wants to connect to the server I get this message, in English strangely mixed up with some Dutch:

Unable to connection to patchmypc.com. Please verify you have internet connection And try to browse to https://patchmypc.com.

Error Message: De externe server heeft een fout geretourneerd: (403)
Niet toegestaan.

With the Dutch part translated that would be something like:

Unable to connection to patchmypc.com. Please verify you have internet connection And try to browse to https://patchmypc.com.

Error Message: The external server returned an error: (403)
Not allowed.

About my network and devices, what I have found out so far, other things to consider:

My internetprovider is very fast and reliable, all things online work flawlessly. Patchmypc has been working perfectly for years and this changed suddenly, without any alterations to my setup at all.

(edit: After some time this issue with the website has been resolved by itself...)

The issue has been mentioned in this extremely short thread:
https://patchmypc.com/forum/index.php?topic=2055.0

So I checked the host file. Patchmypc is not blocked.
I checked the Firewall:
There are no application rules regarding patchmypc
Zero websites are blocked.

There are no other issues with this machine.

Update: Lo and behold, I now can reach the website! That was not possible up to this morning. However, the app still canÔÇÖt connect and this has been the case for at least a week or two. The app however still can't connect.

Now the connection to the website (at least for me) has been intermittendly interupted too while all other websites are without issues (and those were many), IÔÇÖd appreciate if somebody knowledgable could think this over. What could cause my issue? What could be the solution?

In the meantime I tried to run patchmypc with the firewall in 'trainingsmodus' to no avail.

Hi all, first post  :)

I'm running LibreOffice 6.1.3. Version 6.1.4 is available since at least 3 days. PMPC does not detect the update.

Besides, I wonder how PMPC handles the 2 different branches of LibreOffice, the 'fresh' version vs the 'stable' version.
Fresh is at 6.1.4 as stated, while Still is at 6.0.7. (Fresh has the latest functions and options, but has a higher probability of a bug or two. Especially if the latest version digit is still close to zero.)

I am considering to switch to the 'stable' branch. Does PMPC identify the correct branch or is there a risk of being converted to 'fresh' since fresh has allways the a higher version#. Would PMPC 'update' from 6.0.7 to 6.1.3 for instance?
