Updates deployment "breaks" the Firefox session.

Hi everyone,

We got the following complain from a user. Can you please advise? Thank you in advance.

I am using Firefox as my default browser. PatchMyPC regularly installs new updates for the browser, which is nice.

But there is a problem: Everytime the update is installed, the browser 'freezes', means it is not able to connect to any website or webservice anymore. The only thing that helps is to close the browser, wait a moment and open it up again.

There is no overlay message or anything informing me about the update as it would pop up when using the Firefox internal update mechanism. I just found the root cause by correlating the freezes with the PatchMyPC patching notifications... It looks like the workflow the update procedure uses, just puts the browser in some kind of zombie mode.

This is incredibly annoying especially when having a lot of open tabs as more and more of our tools are browser based. All progress is lost since saving results is not possible anymore and after a restart, the browser starts in a clean state.

Can you please validate if there are any way to make the update less disruptive via the deployment? It would already be fine if the update would be processed after the browser has been closed and not immediately.

Hello,

This is interesting. I have not heard any other reports of this behavior from other customers. I'd recommend opening a support case with us, as I think we will need to get logs from that customer's endpoint. https://patchmypc.com/technical-support

Hi Andrew,

I informed the user and in case he's willing to investigate the issue actively, he will let us know and we will raise a support case.

Thank you for the quick reply and best regards.
