Microsoft Edge Update not applying

Patchmypc catalog reports both x86 and x64 versions of Edge installed for all machines. Pushed edge update in Intune and piloted but all 15 tested machines returned saying the update wasn't applicable. For the x86 version it reported, "Device architecture (e.g. x86/amd64) is not applicable for the application." For the x64 versions it reported,d "PowerShell script requirement rule is not met."

Verified on a machine that edge itself reports as the 64 bit version but is installed in program files (x86) and can only find in in the wow6432node portion of the registry. I'm not entirely sure what the detection script for the 64bit edge is looking for but it failed to identify that the edge version running is older than the update.

I'd had to start messing around with editing the detection script so figured I'd ask for suggestions first before building my own detection.

Thanks!

The Edge update checks for a specific reg key that is only put down once the MSI has been installed at least once.

If you push out the App to all devices just the once, or include it as part of your build process, then the updates should apply.

We are doing a review internally to see if we are able to change this detection to make life easier.

We're seeing this as well. Did something change on the PatchMyPC side that would cause this? We haven't had this issue before.

We are also experiencing this issue. I think there is an extra variable in on of the scripts that's adding an extra space.

Hello,
Andrew from the catalog team here. We've received a few more reports of this. I'm not aware of any changes for Edge that would have caused this issue, but we're going to dig in and investigate further. Thanks for the report.

Everything appears OK here, with the caveat that Intune updates are only applicable to machines that have had the MSI installed at least once previously.

This is mentioned here:

QuoteInbox Edge is missing registry values that Patch My PC uses to determine the architecture and branch of the Edge install. Workaround by deploying the Edge application to devices. Once the MSI is installed once, updates should then become applicable.

I'm hopeful that we will be able to remove this additional registry key the update is looking for without any negative impact, which would allow the update to become applicable on a clean windows install. If so, we'll update that page and I'll post back here.
