When PatchMyPC says "portable" apps, I assume that means a program that has no installation program with it? To "install" it, you just copy/paste it into a folder where you want it? This also means it doesn't need to consult the registry? Right?

I have a few programs like that. I put them in a folder called "Stand-Alone", and each program has its own folder under "Stand-Alone". How do I get PatchMyPC to recognize those programs? By default, it seems to be creating a folder on my Desktop called "PortableApps". I tried changing this to my "Stand-Alone" folder. But so far, PatchMyPC is not verifying any of my portable apps.

I am new at using PatchMyPC, so I am trying to find my way around.

If you want PMPC to notify you of updates and to download update packages for a supported portable app, you must first select the app from the App Library and click the "Install" button to initiate the first download of that app to your PortableApps folder. From then on PMPC will continue to supply updates to the portableapps folder until you "Uninstall" the app through the Home Updater (from My Apps or Uninstall tabs). This process is basically a subscription with the PMPC server for updates to the portable app.

The Home Updater does not care where you set up your folders and subfolders for portable apps and does not scan them.

See the topic "portable apps" started by phoneios in this same forum for a longer explanation that I provided there.

To get patchmypc to recognize your portable apps, you need to add them to the App Library. Here's how you can do it:

Open patchmypc and go to the App Library.

Search for the portable app you want to add.

Click the Install button to initiate the first download of that app to your designated folder.

hope it helps you
