Title: Error when exiting Patch My PC on ARM64 laptop
Post by: bcerutti on October 02, 2024, 04:19:59 PM
When I click on the 'x' in the upper right corner to exit PatchMyPC on my new ARM64 Surface Laptop, it displays an error.  See attached.  The application works well up to that point.  And when I click on 'Quit' in the error message, the application terminates successfully after a few seconds.

How can I fix this error?

Thanks,

Bryan Cerutti

Hey there,
This kind of issues are gone now with PMPC v5.0.0 :)

Thanks for your response.  I downloaded the new version and attempted to install it.  I got an error indicating one of the mandatory prerequisites did not install correctly.  See attached.

What now?

Okay, I went to Microsoft, downloaded & installed the mandatory prerequisite, then ran your installer again and... success!

I'm not sure why installing it from your installer doesn't work and installing from Microsoft does...

Ohh this is on ARM64! So you manually installed the ARM64 version of .NET 8 Runtime, right?
If yes, then can you please give us a screenshot from the following locations in the registry?

HKLM\SOFTWARE\dotnet\Setup\InstalledVersions\arm64\sharedfx\Microsoft.WindowsDesktop.App

HKLM\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\dotnet\Setup\InstalledVersions\arm64\sharedfx\Microsoft.WindowsDesktop.App

Thank you! :)

Okay, Omar, here are the screen shots you requested.  The first registry entry you requested was not in my registry.  I enclosed a screen shot of the closest item I found.  The second entry was there and I have enclosed the result.
I hope these are helpful.

Thank you very much! 🙏🏻😊 It's all Justin Chalfant, the founder 😊 and the amazing team who's actually programming and improving it! I just add apps, update them daily and fix some detection issues and this kind of stuff 😅
But thank you again! and please don't hesitate to report any kind of issues you find! :)

It is not fixed.  Same issue with MS Surface 7 with ARM64.  Installed runtime separately and PMPC won't install.  It shouldn't try to install the runtime again if it exists, so definitely a bug.

Sorry, wrong forum post.  This should go with install errors, not exiting.  Will repost.
