Hey, There is a option in the config.xml document to ignore Java 7 updates this should resolve your issue. Here is the post regarding the config.xml http://patchmypc.net/forum/index.php?topic=16.0 let me know if this resolves your issue.

Patch My PC uses the default silent installation method for software. You will have to manually change these settings if they are overwritten. However Java should only show in system tray when in use.

Justin,

I see potential in PatchMyPC. If nothing else, I will worry less about my father's computer and his ability to update the dreaded Adobe products. But I do have one issue that might be my fault. Everytime he runs the program, it uninstalls Java v6 and updates Java v7 when he pushes the button. Unfortunately, he has an application that requires Java 6 (or more techinically 1.6.x). Furthermore, some of his Firefox bookmarklets seem to have issues with Java 7 and it would be nice to keep Java 6 around. He knows to run the icon on the desktop for the Java 6 installer and just affirm each step. But there will be a day he forgets and a week or three later, there'll be an issue and I won't start the solution process at java. IS there a setting that will let me tell PatchMyPC to leave earlier versions of Java alone?

Thanks for taking the time to make conversations with Pops less stressful.  GM

Can you send a screen shot of the problem?

If the versions aren't showing up that means Patch My PC isn't loading the definitions file from http://patchmypc.net/documents/definitions.xml. See if you can access this file in your browser.

What version are you using? Can you access the following document in your web browser http://patchmypc.net/documents/definitions.xml ? Patch My PC loads the definitions from this XML document. I have seen some virus venders block access to XML documents.

You are connected to the internet right?

Try re-downloading Patch My PC. The versions for the software ex. Flash, Java right?

I left VLC player out of the outdated check because it usually required user interaction when installing.

When patch my pc is loaded if will give you a list of outdated sw installed including optional sw. So if the latest version of thunderbird is 6.0.2 and you have 6.0.1 installed it will show up and you will know you should check thunderbird.

I'm not seeing this in ver 2.0.3. I just tested, and an outdated VLC did not show up as needing updated. I will be happy to test further if needed.

This is something I'm certainly planning on doing in the future. Most likely a cheap Pro version intended for admin's where they could control where everything is downloaded from and more features.

Yeah it most likely won't work if .NET 3.5 is corrupt. Here is a link to .NET 3.5 offline install you could try this http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=25150

Most likely a Microsoft .NET issue. Make sure you have Microsoft .net 3.5 SP1 installed if so re-install it.

No optional software is installedby default. You need to click the optional software button and check the checkbox if you want to install any optional software. When patch my pc is loaded if will give you a list of outdated sw installed including optional sw. So if the latest version of thunderbird is 6.0.2 and you have 6.0.1 installed it will show up and you will know you should check thunderbird.
