Title: Auto update Base Installation Best Practices
Post by: Jduke705 on April 13, 2020, 10:53:01 AM
Sorry if this is something that most likely was covered in an article somewhere. I couldn't seem to find.

My company use to have a third-party company run SCCM and we ended our contract and I have taken over sole responsibilities for SCCM/MECM so there are some areas that I am still a little green in. We subscribed to PMP a while back and just getting around to fully getting it setup due to our company exiting on premise data center and going to the cloud so I had to virtualize and rebuild the SCCM infrastructure.

My lack of clarity is in the following. I have made a couple Base Install applications in PMP and set it to Automatically update the application content and DPs. This application inside of SCCM is where I have 4 deployments. One to Software Center. And 3 to deployments of "rings" that I have built. Alpha, Pilot, Production. If the base application is updated by PMP would all 4 deployments now get the new version automatically since all the deployments are set to that? As in Adobe reader 20.1 is made by PMP. I deploy to Alpha, than a couple days later to Pilot, A week later to Prod. 2 weeks pass and now PMP updates the app the 20.2. Since the base install has the active deployments it will update all collections to 20.2 immediately? This would seem to be "break" our internal testing cycle unless we have PMP Create a new application and don't modify previously created applications but than I would flood SCCM with apps over time.

Is there a best practices guide that I can follow that I maybe missed 6 months + ago when we first signed up? Thanks in advance!

Hi PMPC,

We have similar concerns over the auto update of the apps which we want to test before rolling it out to production. Is there any article or guide that we can refer to for cases like this?

Appreciate any help provided. We are now running the trial version of PMPC - 1 week old :)
