Running v5. Task scheduler is running every day but outdated apps not updating.  I thought it might require enabling the auto-update when opening PMPC feature, but that only got the apps updated when I actually ran the GUI.

Would love to have a way for PCs to update without admin users.

Running version 5.0.0.1

I get the error message below when I open the application while connected to NordVPN:

ERROR  We are sorry, but there was an error.
Message: Retry failed after 6 tries. Retry settings can be adjusted in ClientOptions.Retry or by configuring a custom retry policy in ClientOptions.RetryPolicy. (The requested address is not valid in its context. (homeupdater.patchmypc.com:443))

The last part of the message in parentheses repeats 5 times, and then the entire message repeats 5 times again

BTW, the dialog width seems to be based on the width of my display, which is 5120x1440, making it far too wide. On a normal-sized display the dialog might be more narrow, but the length of the message would probably make it exceptionally tall

I also got an error referring to spam filtering when I try to submit this post, so there is apparently an IP filter in place which has NordVPN on its blocklist. I tried to work around the filter by adding the PatchMyPC executables to a split tunnel rule, but the connection is still blocked, I'm guessing because the app uses .NET to create the connection and so the split-tunnel rule on the parent executable doesn't apply. I also used a dedicated IP address leased through Nord, and this is blocked as well - suggesting that all Nord (or maybe all VPN) addresses are blocked, not just addresses associated with suspicious activity.

Only fully disconnecting from the VPN allows the application to work.

Can you please tell me what resolution are you using? and are you using a higher DPI than 100% or not?
Thank you!

Thank you for reaching out.

Certainly! The situation you described is quite common in environments where software updates are deployed through SCCM (System Center Configuration Manager).

Personaly, I don't think there is anything they can do except reboot the machines. What I can suggest is : Only give a few days restart grace period instead of 14.

You can configure SCCM to automatically schedule reboots after updates are installed. This ensures that systems are rebooted within a reasonable timeframe, minimizing the likelihood of pending reboots causing issues during software installations. And about it and more you can find info online. Here is one article about creating LXP from scratch and it may be useful for you. However, be cautious with this approach, as unexpected reboots can disrupt user workflow.

Raunak

Hello, I'm pretty new to everything, but why 14 days are not a good option, and you offer to make this period shorter?

I actually have the same question. I've always thought that 2 weeks in an optional time.

General Questions (Free Home Updater) / portable apps
Last post by Phoneios - November 01, 2024, 07:29:45 AM
With due pleasure, I installed v5. I now wonder if PatchMyPC managing my portable apps folder also includes the subfolders therein.

edit: I now see that when I select 'portable' applications my subfolders are not visible. To keep a somewhat larger collection of portable apps organized it is really necessary to group them into categories. This seems like a very desirable feature, I'll also post in Feature Requests.

Some apps in the home updater we don't offer updates for because they either don't have a version we can detect in the registry (Add/Remove Programs) or they never change the version numbers in there! But we keep them in the Home Updater because they are very common, and it's good to install them for the first time on a fresh Windows install, and their devs might actually fix this issue someday! Some of these examples are:

Corsair iCUE5
Steam
EA Play
Discord
Battle.Net
EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard
EaseUS Partition Master
yWriter7

However, Corsair iCUE5 is using a static download URL, so if you reinstalled it from our Home Updater, it should update to the latest :)  But it's a big one, so it will take a couple of minutes.

This means you have both 128.3.0 and 128.3.4 installed! and you need to manually uninstall the older one. The latest is 128.4.0 now though!
Also, this kind of confusion is now gone for good in our all new Home Updater v5.0 :) please check it out and let us know your feedback!
