Messages - Justin Chalfant (Patch My PC)

#2116
I'm adding these options into the program. Here is a screen shot of 2.0.7 Beta. There is going to be a options feature replacing the Windows Tools feature.

Are there any switches or use of the XML file to install the optional software as well?

Added in version 2.0.2 you can download it now and download the latest config.xml from this post for a sample of how to install certain optional software by default. Good Idea!

Patch My PC 2.0.7 and above no longer use the config.xml for customizing how it's run

What happened?

I need to make it more obvious, but you can right click the software label and you will have the option to install/skip the update.

If other systems load the definitions fine from your home network it's got to be something on the local system stopping I don't know what though.
#2119
Is it in a corporate network? If it uses a proxy server that could possibly be the issue.
#2120
Putting the definitions.xml will have no effect on anything. I'm clueless why it wouldn't be loading the definitions. The only way I could really debug it would be if I had access to the machine I think.

Hmm not really sure what that error is referring to is this the computer that had a issue installing MS .NET Framework? Did the version numbers load this time after you temporary disabled anitvirus/firewall? Is this a different error than you got before you disabled you antivirus? Try downloading 2.0.7 Beta and let me know if that works patchmypc.net/PatchMyPCBeta.exe (It's beta so may not be 100 %)Thanks!

Is the computer using a proxy to access the internet? The issue is Patch My PC is unable to load the definition file from our website. It could be a firewall or possibly antivirus software blocking the document from loading.

I have another one with no version numbers. I tried right-clicking and installing a number of programs . The programs download immediately and then forever install it.

Internet works as I installed Netframework 3.5 from the net.

Here is the screenshot. Anything else I can send you?

Tried it with definitions.xml in the same folder, still no versions, instant download and installs forever.

Not anytime soon most likely. I don't have the time right now to add those features for a product I'm paying to host and losing money on!  :o

Cool, It was actually a issue with the new icon not being comparable with XP.T

Can you download 2.0.6.2 http://patchmypc.net/download.html and see if it runs ok?

Why wait till March? I will most likely be releasing a incremental update in the next few days to fix some small bugs in 2.0.6. This is what I'm planning on doing to give users a option to keep Java 6 installed.

Justin,

The issue is NOT with Java 7. It's with the program's insistence on uninstalling Java 6, which SOME of the web-pages I visit require. The XML file will allow me to prevent Java 7 updates, but that is the last thing I want from a security standpoint of view. Having said that, Java 6 isn't going to get ITS remaining holes sealed any time soon. But PMP's insistence on deleting this separate program, for all intents and purposes, is making me put the program into the drawer. I have left myself a note to look at it again come spring. I like an AWFUL lot of what you are doing. And just running my jre-6u## installer after every use isn't arduous. Just off-putting.

I hope when I revisit the program, one of two things will have ocurred. Either you treat Java 6 separately, or the idiots still depending on Java 6 (or more technically 1.6), get their butts in gear and update.

  See ya in March. GM

I fixed the issue with the option software. I will most likely release a incremental update of Patch My PC before the scheduled January 1st update. Do you want me to let you know when that's available on here?

Yeah, I had somebody mention this before apparently the Firefox installer doesn't recognize if it was installed the a different drive. I will see if there's a fix for this. I did notice the optional software issue where if you check optional software and run updates then uncheck it and run updates it still applies the same update your had checked. I will fix this in the next version thanks for pointing this out  :)!

What version of Patch My PC are you using?
#2130
It's working fine for me can you manually download and install winrar?
