That looks like something else.  My issues is that it won't close apps that are running in order to update them even though I have is set to do so.  The other thread looks like Silent Installs aren't working at all.  Not sure if they're related or not.

Just tested this with 4.0.1.0 and it still skipped updating my Firefox that was open.

INI file shows:

;Chk_Options_AutoStartUpdateOnOpen
;Chk_Options_CreateDesktopShortcuts

Log shows:

I jsut tested running the app manually and it did close my Firefox and install the update.  The problem seems to just be when using patchmypc.exe with the /s flag.

Hi,

Just ran PMPC /s and my log file shows this:
3/13/2018 12:20:18 PM - Skipping install for Adobe Flash Plugin 29.0.0.113 because iexplore.exe is running and auto close apps isn't enabled during
3/13/2018 12:20:18 PM - Skipping install for Mozilla Firefox 59.0 (x86) because Firefox.exe is running and auto close apps isn't enabled during

However, I *DO* have the auto close apps settingn turned on as this is in my INI file
; Options

Chk_Options_AutoCloseAppsBeforeUpdate
;Chk_Options_AutoStartUpdateOnOpen

Any idea why it's not working like it's supposed to?

Just for fun, I wen through and set every app to NOT check for updates.  When I opened PMPC back up, the following apps were set TO check for updates:

Adobe Flash ActiveX 29.0.0.113
Java 8 Update 161 x64
Java 8 Update 161 x86
Microsoft Silverlight 5.1.50907.0
Firefox 59.0 x86
Firefox ESR 52.7.0 x64
Unchecky 1.1
Skype 7.40.0.151

And ALL the things under Portable Apps

If I had to guess, there's probably just a typo in the part that sets the registry key and the part that reads the registry keys to determine which apps should not get updates.

Same as in this thread.  There appears to be a few programs that are not working properly.

I have this same problem with Java 8.  I set them to not update, close the program, open it back up, and they're not set to not update any more.

Java 9 is working fine and so are the other things I've set.

I know that when I set something to not update it creates a registry key.  The registry key IS there and set correctly.  If I set ti to NOT update, then set it TO update, the key goes to a 0, if I set it to NOT updates, it goes back to a 1.  Ten when I close and re-open the program, even though the registry is still a 1, it will NOT be crossed off in the UI and WILL update the program.

We used to use Firefox ESR (v52) but have changed to just using regular Firefox now.  This left us with most people have both versions installed since they are technically separate programs.  Is there any way for PMPC to look for a certain program and uninstall it if it finds it?

I don't think there is but just thought I'd ask since it'd be cool if it could. :)

Howdy,

Since the .settings files don't work any more, how can I make it so that none of the computers in our office will check for certain updates if they all run the program with /s from a network share?  We don't want the Java JDKs to update since we need certain versions to do certain things.

It doesn't seem like those settings are stored in the exported INI file from what I can tell.  I right clicked a few things to disable the auto updates and exported the INI file but nothing changed.

Not sure if that's a bug or WAD or what.

Howdy,

Testing out some of the changes with adding the computer name to the log file name.  We've always noticed that the first time PMPC is run on a new computer, (run in silent mode with /s) it doesn't generate a log file.  It's not in the folder with the .exe, it's not under appdata anywhere, it just doesn't seem to record anything.

The second time I run the program it generates the log file just fine.  The problem is that the first run is when it's going to make most of the changes and I have no record of what it did.

It seems as though it's reading in the info from the .INI file but it's not using that information until after the program is closed and reopened.

Any way that can be fixed or changed?

I understand the desire to have all the settings in one file and that's great.  However, you shouldn't make the .settings file stop working until you have the .ini file setup so that it can replicate all the same settings.

Why do you not want the log file to be able to be stored on the PC that's actually running the program?  I'd rather configure it to just store it in C:\Temp or something like that than to have 100+ log files on a network share.  The .settings files works great the way it is.  Why remove functionality that works?
