Thunderbird 68.0 does not exist. version 60.8 is the latest.
Wrong, look here: https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/68.0/releasenotes/?uri=/thunderbird/releasenotes/&locale=en-US&version=68.0&channel=release&os=WINNT&buildid=20190826194726

Thunderbird 68.0 was first released in 2018, therefore its out - of - date.

The first beta was first released in Jan 2019, The first stable is released 3 days ago.
I never use beta versions as they tend to be unstable.
Thanks Omar

Hi again Omar, this link might prove interesting!
https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/68.0/releasenotes/
PatchMyPC lists "Mozilla Thunderbird 60.9.0 **(x86)**" as an outdated app although "Mozilla Thunderbird 68.1.0 **(x64)**" is currently installed on my PC. (Latest version: 4.1.0.3 / Definition: 18-Sep-2019).

That means "Mozilla Thunderbird 60.9.0 (x86)" is still installed on your machine, make sure you remove it.
@Omar: Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. Sometimes I miss the obvious - shame on me.
No problem :) It happens a lot.
Also I think this was intentional by Thunderbird devs starting from v68
