Title: Pro Version? Fetching files from a local folder?
Post by: timmy2 on July 18, 2013, 03:23:00 PM
I see in your forum that someone asked for a feature (fetching updates from a local folder) I was going to ask about today, and they asked about it almost 2 years ago. In the ensuing time you've replied periodically to that question and similar ones saying you might offer it in the pro version. You also wrote that you're subsidizing Patch My PC so you aren't motivated to add features. I understand that, but after two years at least why not try making a buck with a Pro version?  Ninite Updater at $10/year establishes a precedent and a price umbrella. Isn't that worth shooting for?

In the interim, here's a question: I assume you download updates to a folder. Would it be possible for us to preload the download folder with the latest updates so that when PMPC begins an update session it first checks for the presence of the to-be-downloaded file and if it finds one it skips downloading? I used to do that with the Software Distribution folder used by Windows Update. Sounds simple to me!

p.s., to outdo Ninite Updater I recommend two additions: offer the options to not create or save a desktop shortcut AND the option to not add anything to the Start Menu.
