Thanks Omar. There's really nothing like it, at least 1.0.7 works good, for now..

from Handbrake forum, explains why 32bit was dropped and confirms 1.0.7 as last known good version. I still scratch my head as to how this local hardware is actually 32bit, sucks because desktop is (only;) 6 years old :P

"Re: HandBrake 1.1.1 Release Discussion.

Post by s55 ┬╗ Tue Jun 19, 2018 2:42 pm
32bit support was dropped with 1.1.0. Three main reasons:

1. We haven't been testing the 32bit build for nearly 2 years now so the build was becoming less stable with time since we weren't fixing issues that only crop up under 32bit.
2. Memory limitations of 32bit builds are becoming more of an issue. Having large numbers of people complaining of crashes with 1080p and more so, 4K content isn't a good use of our time.
3. Every CPU that's above our minimum supported hardware is 64bit. The vast majority of our users are running 64bit OS as well. For those that arn't, 1.0.7 is still available on the old downloads page. It'll still work, there just isn't any support on offer for that."

Back in May I had trouble downloading and installing v1.1.0, reported it here, then next day it magically resolved, downloading and installing as expected. I did not, however, attempt run the program after install until the other day which ended quickly in error (screenshot #1)

Although not clear about dropping 32bit support in 1.1.0 it seems this was intended change in version 1.1.0, even though the installer allowed instal on 32bit OS (which I run Win7sp1 on this older desktop, linux on all else). Perhaps a note specifying works on 64bit OS only, with option to instal last known good version for 32bit which appears to be v1.0.7 would be useful for this popular program.

from the changelog, under Windows:  https://handbrake.fr/news.php
- Updated installer to block installation on 32-bit systems to avoid confusion (unsupported since 1.1.0)

At first it looked like the 0MB reports in logs for downloads, except it is actually creating a Zero byte file and considers it updated (portable version).  Looking into this further I was unable to find portable version on site at all (used to be found in "builds" download page. Checked their forums and found this post on broken download for the portable version, which confirms it is broken on their end.
https://forum.piriform.com/topic/51919-download-link-broken-ccleaner-v5436520-portable/

Still, oddly, PMPC appears to d/l this zero byte file, which I cannot reproduce attempting manual download using same link in browser, nothing happens in browser except refresh back to page. Expected behavior would include a warning or fail of some sort with no empty file created in place of expected file.

UWT v4.x only works for Win10+ and refuses to run on Win7. Please consider adding UWT v3 (for Win8 users) and UWT v2.2 (for Win7 and Vista users) as options for download in the portable apps category. The below is their statement from the bottom of the UWT v4.4.1 page, by the manual download button:

"Ultimate Windows Tweaker 4.4.1 for Windows 10 has been developed by Paras Sidhu, for TheWindowsClub.com. It supports Windows 10, 32-bit & 64-bit and Internet Explorer 11. It requires.NET Framework 4 to work, which comes pre-installed in Windows 10.

Windows 7 & Windows Vista users should continue to use Ultimate Windows Tweaker 2.2, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 should continue to use Ultimate Windows Tweaker 3."

an option to download each, or all, versions would be great, realizing v3 and v2.2 won't see any updates for the old OS versions it would be nice to have the option available through PMPC.

Alternately, consider marking the UWT menu item in portable apps category as "for Win10+ only (see website for old OS supporting versions)" as a warning/notice for users.

Thanks :)

another follow up to part 1, after setting PMPC to new portable apps directory (which I overlooked how to do initially) I see that PMPC does check the new directory for portables in there and downloads updated apps as appropriate.

Second part of post about the wierd only downloading one at a time for portables also seems to have resolved as updates this morning show.

hah, just came back to update this thread. Thank you for verifying Omar, I didn't see any mention on site of the combined installer (also admit not looking too hard). Just now handbrake 1.1.0 is updating 1.0.7 and installing fine- not sure why it would not download at all yesterday, but it's working now.  Consider this case closed :)

Related question first- can I direct PMPC to check for and update portable apps in a specific directory? (and be able to specify download path for portable apps would be great!)
While the desktop /PortableApps folder creation is nice I do move them to my /PORT directory afterwards, usually in individual folders there or combined with like apps.
:P
regarding the above, I did finally notice the folder icon for portable apps catagory and see how to change download path there, haven't tested if it will update the apps I placed there earlier though.. If not, consider this a feature request, for sure   :o

which brings me to this weird behavior noticed today, after a cancelled update yesterday in which half the portables I selected to d/l were stopped before completing. Giving it another attempt today I went back into log to see what skipped yesterday

intially reselecting 7  "already installed" (green) did d/l only first in list, then reports done, ended up repeating this and each time it would d/l only one and report complete

Couple of things noticed while attempting to add this program to my pc (old win7 box, 32bit). First the fail shown in log snip above- which works fine manually downloading from website. Second, they appear to have removed or dropped support for 32bit Handbrake, although it is not identified in PMPC menu as 64bit only (last 32bit version compatible looks to be v1.0.7, as seen here-

HandBrakeCLI-1.0.7-win-i686.zip 09-Apr-2017 20:54

Main page: https://handbrake.fr/downloads.php
only lists 64bit GUI version for windows and if you go to CLI version it has a link for v1.1.0 CLI but it fails with a 404 (file not found)
