I am running PMPC as a scheduled task using the silent option and there are no problems, see last log entry below.

Ok, so it's not a problem with the application, probably something on my PC. What troubleshooting can i do to find the cause and a solution?

StPendl

See the attached images for my settings of the scheduler and application.
How are you running PMPC, scheduled through PMPC (like I do), manually or with a custom script?

caricas

I am running with a Scheduler, on Task Scheduler, the schedule stays running forever.
I have attached images of my settings from Options and Scheduler from Patch My PC.

If i run Patch My PC mannually, it works fine.

StPendl

Have you changed any security settings of Windows or are you running an otherwise manipulated Windows release?
It seems that the scheduled task has not the same rights as the interactive process.

caricas

I did not change any security settings of windows.

It's not a problem with Task Scheduler permission because when i run the Task Scheduler with the option "Task Visibility: Visible", PMPC works just fine, it's only with the option silent, it does not work.

I have a virtual machine with windows 11 pro on beta prerelease and same happens.

As far as i understand via the logs, the unique difference is the /silent is switch to /auto. I guess /silent is broken for some reason on both my systems.

StPendl

Did you set up the scheduled task manually or through PMPC?
If manually, delete the scheduled task and re-create it through PMPC.
Sorry, it is very hard to tell due to the log being not really supportive for this issue.

caricas

I set up the scheduled task via PMPC.
Today i started Task Scheduler as admin and deleted the task. I started PMPC as admin and recreated the task. Tested the scheduled task with "Run" and still the same. The scheduled task stays on status "Running" forever and the log end in "26/07/2022 23:51:11 - Starting to perform updates silently since /silent switch used".
I don't see any events on event viewer about PMPC.
You don't need to apologize, i just have to say thank you for spending your time trying to help me :)

StPendl

So the scheduled task is hanging, this is a new fact.
Could you check if your anti virus software is blocking PMPC?

caricas

i am using Windows Defender, i added the folder of PMPC to the exclusions, open task scheduler as admin and runned the task. Still hanging. also tried to disabled it but it was the same.

StPendl

Windows defender is usually not blocking PMPC.
May be there is a firewall setting preventing the connection home for PMPC.
Which user is running the task, can you change the executing user to yours and check again?

caricas

The user SYSTEM is running the task. i cannot use my user to run the task because my user does not have a password.
I have turned off windows defender firewall for networks public and private and the scheduled task still hangs.

Hello, my friend, Systems Administrador Master, found and solve the issue in like 10 minutes.
I am running the schedule task with System account. System does not have permission to write (download files) to OneDrive folders. I was using PMPC on my OneDrive folder. After i switch PMPC folder to C: and exported the configuration to ini file, it worked. I just left the logs on OneDrive folder and now it's working as intended.

Thank you for your help anyway.

Hope this helps someone with the same problem in the future.
